Measurement 3

Measurement is definitely the core subject for Quantity Surveying course. It is a subject which enable quantity surveyor to learn how to produce Bill of Quantities for a project. In measurement 3 subject, the topic included are windows, doors, roof, structural steelworks, fencing works & gates, and prime cost sum & provisional sum. Our measurement 3 is taught by Mr.Soon, which is a experience lecturer. In measurement 3 subject, i understand team dynamics and able to mobilize the power of teams. Beside that, I am able to think critically and creatively.

There are an assignment given in measurement 3, which are measurement of doors and windows. This assignment is unlike assignments given in measurement 1 & 2 as we are require to find our own building to do the measurement. However, our group consist of four members. Although we met some problem in the assignment but we manage to solve the problem as everyone in the group are willing to help one another. Throughout this assignment, we understand how Bill of Quantities is done.

In the class of Mr.Soon, he will teach a chapter in lecture and will give us a question to do in tutorial class. He will explain the answer to us after we have done the question. From all the tutorial question Mr.Soon gave, i found all of them are very useful for us to boost our knowledge regarding the topic he taught.

Building Services 2

Building services is a useful subject for us to understand how services work in a building. Building services 2 topic consist of mechanical and air conditioning system, fire protection in building, vertical transportation system, electricity supply to building. This subject enable me to increase my knowledge for the topic mentioned above.

In building services 2, it consist of an assignment and a mid term exam. We are require to find a building for the assignment to explain about all the topics in that particular building. After that, we need to give some advice to improve two of the system our of four. The system we choose to further improve are mechanical and air conditioning system and fire protection in building. From this assignment, we understand further on reality how these topics work.

In conclusion, building services is a very important subject in construction field as it enable us to identify relevant information related to the topic taught. Apart from that, it benefit a quantity surveying student to study this subject for their bright future.

Construction Technology 3

Construction technology 3 is a subject which enable student to understand further of industrialized building system, tunnel formwork, aluminium formwork, precast concrete construction, retaining wall, dewatering, curtain wall, prestressing, steel space frame roof and green buildings. This subject consist of a mid term exam and an assignment. Our lecturer require us to choose any topic for the assignment.

My group had chosen industrialized building system as the topic for the assignment. We do not require to find a site for this subject. We are require to find the information from reliable source such as books, internet, construction company and many more. Throughout this assignment, we gain knowledge on method of construct for industrialized building system and the suitable material used for it.

In additional, construction technology 3 enable us to analyze the construction nature problems systematically and synthesis solution though critical evaluation. It also enable us to understand the safety and correct use of materials. Construction technology 3 is the last construction technology subject for Bachelor of Quantity Surveyor.

Management Science

Management Science is a subject which enable student to understand the management principles and different type of management tools in the construction industry to enhance employment prospectus. Besides that, students can understand the procedures for strategy formulation and decision making. This subject contain of an assignment and a mid term test. Our lecturer require us to choose a hotel as case study in the assignment.

My group have chosen Hotel De Art as a case study for the assignment. It is basically a art theme hotel located in Shah Alam Selangor. Throughout this case study, i have gain knowledge regarding how a hotel management operates and how it generate their income.

In additional, by study management science subject, I am able to define the operation of different type of organizations in construction industry and execute SWOT analysis for decision making. Furthermore, I am able to formulate my own management potential and adopt competent communication skill. 

Building Services

Building services is a subject for understanding of the services in a building. Building services topic consist of ventilation, telecommunication, storm water, cold water supply system and hot water supply system. This subject enable me to recognize and interpret drawings related to building services and illustrate services construction in schematic diagrams. Beside that, I am able to explain principles and system related to water supply, storm water, ventilation and telecommunication services.

In this subject, we are require to carried out an assignment regarding to topic we choose. The assignment include a video and report. The topic my group chose is installation of hot water supply in hotel. We made a video about a heater explode due to wrongly installed. As for the report, our group include an oversea hotel and a local hotel as case study. The friendship between group members are greatly benefit from this assignment. Further from that, we gain much knowledge about the hot water heater and solar used in hotels.

In conclusion, building services is also one of the important subject as it enable us to identify relevant information related to the topic taught by lecturer. Lastly, building services enable us to differentiate the installation of various type of services in a building. It is a very good advantage for Quantity Surveyor student to have such topic in their syllabus for better understanding.

Measurement 2

Measurement is a core subject for Quantity Surveying course. It is a skill of producing Bill of Quantities for a project. In measurement 2, the topic included are piling works, staircase structure, staircase finishes, partition, timber flooring, wall structure, wall finishes, floor finishes, and ceiling finishes. Our measurement 2 is taught by two lecturer, Mr. Chee and Miss. Habizah, which separately teach staircase and wall.

There is two assignment given in measurement 2, which are topic on staircase finishes and on wall. For the staircase finishes, it is a group work which group member consist of four members. It is a very simple assignment as everyone in the group are willing to help one another. As for the wall assignment, it is a group work as group member consist of two. For this wall assignment, it is tough to everyone as it only contain 3 hours to finish and submit to lecturer on the spot. However, these assignment help us to understand further of the topics we learn during lecture.

In the tutorial class of Mr.Chee, he gave us some tutorial question to do and some question as homework. As for tutorial class of Miss.Habizah, she ask us to do one tutorial question in each class and will check the answer with us. She give us multiple homework during the study week to boost our knowledge regarding the lecture she taught. Although we do not have sufficient time to do the homework she gave as we need to study for finals, but we are relieve she did give us some homework to assist us in final exam.

Construction Technology 2

Construction technology 2 is a subject which enable student to understand further of pile foundations, deep excavation, form works, scaffolding, shoring and underpinning, partition and suspended ceiling, portal frame, precast concrete, and steel roof trusses technology. This subject consist of a mid term exam and an assignment. Our lecturer require us to choose a topic regarding the assignment. 

My group had chosen piled foundation as the topic for the assignment. We are require to find a site by our self and arrange a site visit. This enable us to gain courage in talking to contractor we did not know. Throughout the site visit, we also gain knowledge of piled foundation building procedure and the type of machinery used in construction site. Beside that, it enable us to further understanding of components and installation in real situation.

In additional, Construction Technology 2 enable us to analyze the construction nature problems systematically and synthesis solution though critical evaluation. It also enable us to understand the safety and correct use of building materials. Although this subject is all theoretical but I did not lost any interest in studying this subject and I am looking forward to study Construction Technology 3.
